Wireless Router Died

Spent the whole evening troubleshooting the router. Finally confirmed it’s beyond repair. Dlink 524M. Bought three in two years — one for myself, one for my parents, one for my wife’s parents. Two have died. Clearly a disposable item.

After hours of research, bought a TP-Link on Taobao for peanuts. Dual antennas, hopefully better signal. Chinese reinforced concrete houses are tragic for wireless router signals. Japanese wooden houses are much better. That’s why only domestic brands make high-power routers. Foreign brands can’t because they don’t need them.

Stumbled upon the fact that routers can be flashed with custom firmware. A classic embedded product indeed.
