Windows Embedded CE "R3" Released

Although I knew early on that CE was getting an "R3" release, I was bound by an NDA and couldn't make it public. Now that Microsoft has officially announced it, I no longer need to keep it secret.

R3 has nothing to do with India (haha), but it contains the hard work of many Chinese teams. And R3 users include Chinese companies like Meizu.

The main additions include:

New version of IE, ported from ZUNE. Better suited for touch screen operation.

– Flash Lite 3.1, need I say more.

– SNS: QQ for CE, Windows Messenger, need I say more. QQ has made it onto the international stage thanks to this.

– Connection Manager: ported from WM.

People working on the following might be happy about R3:

– Media Internet Devices, third parties no longer need to look for Opera.

– Smart book, e-books. Haven't seen CE-based e-books yet — shanzhai companies need to step up.

– Phone, especially low-cost smartphones. Those who can't afford WM licenses can use CE.

– PND (Navigation), plenty of shanzhai already.

As for the Kernel, not much change. Probably CE 7 won't have major changes either. As for limitations, I feel CE 6's 32/32 limitation change was great. But CE still has a fundamental flaw: the kernel...
