PUDN Is Awesome (In a Way)
Tonight I was grading projects from students retaking their graduation exams. My conclusion: PUDN, that wonderful website, has become the savior for students turning in their projects. The other two who passed — that doesn’t mean their projects were original; maybe I just couldn’t find the source. PUDN’s biggest advantage is its excellent SEO. Search for the name of a class in the code on Google, and you’ll find it instantly. For students, this could be a comedy or a tragedy. If a student actually paid to register as a PUDN VIP to download the code, that’s a complete tragedy. Word has it some people bought VIP accounts and then sublet them, charging others 10 RMB per download.
As shown below:
The so-called “graduation make-up exam” is a unique feature of Chinese universities under the pseudo-credit system. It gives students a last chance before “graduating on time,” so I estimate this table won’t actually be entered into the system and they’ll be forced to pass them anyway. If students just stand on the rooftop and threaten to jump, giving them an A is also quite possible. Last year, I was threatened by a student who said: “I passed every other course, only this one is left. If you give me a pass, I get the diploma. If not, I won’t. And if I don’t get the diploma, I’ll…”
After all, maintaining stability is also a major function of Chinese universities. A student jumping would increase social disharmony…
